Camping and Hiking

Chopta is well known as Hikers paradise. Away from the polluted and hustle bustle city life the Green alpine meadows attracts the nature lovers to stay at the camps to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and fill their lungs with the fresh oxygen. Some famous camping and hiking spots at Chopta are – Duggalbitta, Baniyakund, Bhulkand, Deoriyatal and Rohini Bugyal.

Trekking

Chopta is a paradise for trekkers and adventure lovers its offer an action packed adventure freaks for adventures enthusiastic. There are so many treks and trails in Chopta region crossing verdant forest and picturesque grassland. Tungnath, Chandrashila & Devariyatal are considering as the most popular trek routes in Chopta.

Walking Jungle Safari Trails

Chopta is rapidly being popular for bird watching. Kedarnath wildlife sanctuary is a well-known wildlife sanctuary in Chopta, it is also called Musk Deer Sanctuary. There are you can find more than 221 species of birds including: Himalayan Black Bear, leopard, Fox, wild Boar, Jungle Cat, Jackal, Marbled Cat, Yellow – throated Marten, Himalayan Langur, Pika, Ghoral, Himalayan Tahr, and Barking Deer. Monal and Musk Deer are the main attractions of this Sanctuary.

As a part of the regional wild life sanctuary, the Chopta area’s vast array of plants and animals are of significant interest to visitors. The region is home to no fewer than 121 mammal species. Many species are rare and exclusive to the area, and are now at risk of extinction.

These include the world-famous snow leopard, the Musk dear, certain breeds of vultures, the Thuner, Ghinaroo, and Paapri, among others. At one point, the forestry department had established a Musk dear sanctuary at Chopta in effort to protect and increase the dwindling population, but the species has not sufficiently recovered to alleviate its risk of extinction.

Birds Watching

One of Chopta’s major attractions is its 251 species of indigenous and migrant birds, making the area a very popular destination for bird watching enthusiasts. Aficionados traveling to the  region especially seek a glimpse of the Monal Bird, the state bird of Uttarakhand.

Flora Research

The Chopta Himalayan valley is within Uttarakhand’s world-renowned, spectacularly bio-diverse Kedarnath wildlife sanctuary. In addition to elevating Chopta as a hiker’s wonderland, great numbers of research scientists and students now visit the Chopta region to study its immense diversity of indigenous plant life and multiplicities insect species.

Notable genera include 45 giant tree species. And, the countless dazzling flower species are the jewels of Uttarakhand, so prominent that The Valley of Flowers National Park has been established to protect this natural wealth, only a few hours East of Chopta (135.7 kms).

Char Dham Pilgrim Visit

Many visitors come to the region to make pilgrimages along the Char Dham mountain trail to one or more of the several holy shrines along the trail. Longer hikes include base camping.
