Chandrashila

Tungnath Temple

Tungnath is one of the Panch Kedar highest temples of lord Shiva and situated at the 3680 meters above the sea level. The temple can be reached 3.5 km trek from Chopta. This temple is built out of local slate dot the tiny plateau and consider as 1000 year old temple. According to Hindu mythology the Tungnath temple is build by Arjun. The trek to Tungnath temple is commencing from Chopta. The temple is closed from November to March.

Madhmeshwar

Madhmeshwar is one of the popular Hindu temple and dedicated to god Shiva. This temple is situated at an elevation of 3,497 mitres above to the sea level. It is the fourth temple of the Panch Kedar pilgrimage. Madmaheshwar is a popular and untouched 16 km trekking route and destination at threshold of Chaukhamba Mountain in Garhwal Himalaya.

Madmaheshwar is surrounded by the magnificent verdant Himalayan range and snow covered peaks of Chaukhamba, Neel Kanth and Kedarnath in high Himalayan hill ranges. The place is blessed with amazing lush green meadows on the left side and misty Mountain on the right side.

Deoria Tal

Deoria Tal is a beautiful lake with the reflection of snow covered peaks of Chaukhanaba & Kedarnath on its crystal clear water. Nestled at an elevation of 2438 mts above to the sea level, its offers you 3000 panoramic view of imposing Himalaya peaks including Chaukhamba, Bandarpunch, Nilkantha, Kedar Range and Kalanag. Deoriyatal is surrounded by a lush green environment and deep forest, which also served as a popular trekking destination in Chopta region.

Kalimath

Kalimath temple is situated in the bank of Saraswati River in Rudraprayag district. Perched at an elevation of 1800 above to the sea level, it’s offering the amazing view of salubrious and divine environment. Kalimath is one of the 108 Shaktipeeth in Uttarakhand. The huge numbers of devotees visit this temple round of the year and especially during the “Navratris’s” for worship of Goddess Kali.

Best Time to Visit Chopta

Summer

It’s very cool and pleasant weather during summer from March to May with the temperature between 100 C to 300 C. You can enjoy crystal clear and splendid view of imposing Himalayan range. Carry some light woollen clothes if you are planning to visit Chopta in summers.

Spring

Monsoon is very pleasant time to visit Chopta Valley. This season starts from July to ends in October. This is a perfect time for those, who want to enjoy the charm of rain in the hill station. But don’t forget to carry your rain coat and some woollen clothes. You may have to face inconvenience due to landslides.

Winter

This is a best time to enjoy snowfall if you are snowfall lover then must visit Chopta between November to March. The temperature during this season is between a minimum of -150 C to a maximum of 150 C. don’t forget to carry heavy woollen clothes. Chopta valley is fully snow covered during winters and some of the routes going to Chopta are blocked. Then avoid visiting this place during this season.

The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport from Chopta, which is in the city of Dehradun.

By Rail

Rishikesh is a nearest rail way station from Chopta. It is 200 km far from there.

By Road
